I remember I watched this several years back – Swinging Bach live from Market Square in Leipzig. The whole square was packed with people standing with an umbrella in their hands. It was raining. The whole concert was just great! It got the leading musicians in the world to play Bach’s perhaps most well-known pieces. It got Gil Shaham and his wife, Adele Anthony, to play the violin duo concerto; Jacques Loussier Trio and Bobby Mcferrin, Turtle Island Quartet to do jazz Bach; King’s Singers to ‘deconstruct’ Bach…Just great!

The part that touched me most was when Bobby Mcferrin asked the audience to sing Ave Maria along with his singing of Bach’s Prelude in C major. You can see from the camera that most people know the song and did sing along. We’re not talking about a concert hall. It’s an open space, a market place. Just think about how many people were there and they’re all singing along. It’s just so amazing!

P.S. If you like this one, you’ll probably like the rest of the concert as well. Just type Swinging Bach in youtube and you’ll find a few clips. Enjoy!
