Took an evening flight to come back to HK after the Bangkok trip. It was very dark up on the sky but when we were above HK, no more darkness. HK really shines like pearl. We can see clearly the buildings, roads, cars on the road, bridges, boats and ships, stadiums and pools…everything shining brightly.

We could see the wings of the aircraft and could see everything. We could see the lines of the mountains and the shores.

We could see the beams – beaming up, beaming down…depends on how the lights are set.

It’s really beautiful…HK shining like a pearl at night.

And this beauty comes with a price – heavy light pollution. Light comes from electricity and electricity generation itself creates pollution as well.

Do we really need to shine that brightly?
